There are two laboratories under Biochemistry Department. The full time Clinical Chemistry laboratory provides 24 hour diagnostic facilities to all departments of Medical College. Special biochemical investigations are done in the Research laboratory attached to the department.    

      The clinical biochemistry lab which caters to the needs of patients is also working under the   department of biochemistry.  Under the guidance of  HOD Dr. Joseraj.M.G. and the Sr. Scientific Assistant Mr. Pradeep Kumar K.M, a total of 17 technicians and one chemist work in the laboratory.        

       In the clinical Biochemistry lab, which works round the clock, emergency  investigations like arterial blood gas analysis, blood sugar, urea, Serum Creatinine, electrolytes as well as special investigations like Lipid profile, Liver Function Test and Renal Function Test ,Uric acid etc are being done using automated machines. A monthly turnover of approximately, 25,000 tests is enough to show the efficiency of the lab.

      The laboratory is registered under External Quality Control programme conducted by ACBI, CMC, Vellore (Grade- Elite Group)    

           In addition to the routine biochemical tests being done in the clinical lab the research lab attached to the department performs various highly  specialized investigations like -S.Electrophoresis,Hb electrophoresis, Urine Amino Acid  screening,- Chromatography (paper & TLC),Detection of VMA, PBG,Homocysteine, Myoglobinuria, Haemoglobinuria,Ca,Homocysteine, S.Iron profile,Hormonal assays - insulin,cortisol etc.
