       DM( Nephrology)

Postgraduate training –DM Nephrology was started in 1992 with annual intake of one candidate per year based on the competitive examination held annually. Candidates with training in MD Internal Medicine or Pediatrics are eligible to apply for the course. The duration of training is 3 years. 

During the period of training renal fellows acquire skills to manage various kidney diseases. Fellows receive hands on training to do procedures such as renal biopsies vascular accesses. Renal fellows are first on call for consultations and take active participation in day today management of patients with the guidance of faculty members. Renal fellows in rotation are responsible for transplant work up and they help the faculty in various outpatient clinics run by the department. 

Apart from the bed side discussions, academic activities include topic presentations on basic science, clinical subjects, journal club, renal pathology meeting and case presentations. 

During the period of training fellows are encouraged to write case reports, reviews, to conduct clinical studies and present their work in local, national and international conferences.
