The
Department of O & G, with a history dating back almost 50 years,
was started as part of the Govt. Hospital at Kottaparamba.
It was later shifted to the Beach Hospital in 1960 as a
full-fledged Department. It
was headed by Dr. M.Thankam, then Associate Professor who continued
to guide and nurture the Department, till she retired in 1975.
It
was in 1975 that the Department was shifted to the present premises,
The Institute of Maternal and Child Health, with 6 Units, headed by
Prof. A.Malathy, who continued till 1983.
After that, under a succession of illustrious Head of
Departments, the Department has grown to its present stature.
